Peer Contact

Projects Abroad Pro is based around the idea that the sharing of knowledge and expertise can lead to great things. When you take part in a skilled volunteer placement you will meet fellow professionals in your industry who have varying degrees of skill. Many of the staff will be less qualified than you and you will have the opportunity to work with them, sharing your knowledge and helping them to improve. This can be an incredibly rewarding experience because you know that when you teach something to a colleague, they will use that skill in the future and the good work you have done will carry on in your absence. At the other end of the spectrum you will meet experienced professionals who share your passion for learning. They will want to work with you, discussing new ideas and techniques as well as teaching you about the methods used to cope with the poverty, inefficiency and lack of facilities in a developing country. Below are some examples of experienced local professionals that work on our projects and deal with our volunteers every day:

Dr. Oscar Romero Senior – Medical work in Bolivia

Dr. Oscar Romero Senior - Medical work in Bolivia

Dr. Romero works in the Burns Unit of the Hospital Viedma in Bolivia. He is a perfect example of the kind of peer to peer contact available in our medical placements. While extremely knowledgeable in his field and happy to advise new volunteers, he will benefit from having another experienced professional to work with. Not only will it enable him to share the vast workload of the Burns Unit, but also to discuss possible methods of treatment and brush up on new western techniques. The best part is that this will cost the hospital nothing and their patients will benefit greatly.

Rama Kudolo – Sports coaching in Ghana

Rama Kudolo - Sports coaching in Ghana

Rama is the Head Coach of Cantonments Football Club in Ghana and has been working with the club since 2000. He is always keen to learn new methods of coaching and match tactics, regularly picking the brains of volunteers to give his team the edge. With plenty of experience of playing and coaching Ghanaian football, Rama is also in a unique position to advise volunteers on the mentality of Ghanaian players and how to conduct yourself when dealing with league officials.

Mr Krishna Bhattarai – Physiotherapy in Nepal

At the same time, he values the knowledge and input of an experienced colleague and is receptive to new ideas and suggestions from skilled volunteers.
