Volunteer Physiotherapists needed in Cambodia

Volunteer physiotherapist in Cambodia
This voluntary physiotherapy project provides treatment to children and adults in Phnom Penh.
You can work with orphans in a care home, many of whom have physical disabilities. We also work with older Cambodians who have physical and mental disabilities as a result of war.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:
How can volunteer physiotherapists help in Cambodia?
What will I gain from this project?
What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?
What skills or qualifications do I need?
How do I apply to join this project?
How can volunteer physiotherapists help in Cambodia?
As a volunteer physiotherapist you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff. You can work on tasks such as:
- Examining patients to identify their physical problem.
- Developing and reviewing treatment programmes.
- Helping patients with joint and spinal problems, especially following surgery.
- Writing patient case notes and reports.
- Educating and advising patients and their carers about how to manage their condition.
We work with two completely different institutions so you can decide which appeals to you the most. The National Baby and Children Centre looks after around 115 abandoned children. Many of these have physical disabilities.
Veterans International is an international humanitarian organisation. They deal with victims of war and a major part of their operation is physiotherapy.
On both projects you will be expected to work from 6-8 hours a day, Monday to Friday.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

Volunteer physiotherapist
You will be working with qualified Cambodian medical staff. They will teach you all about the kind of treatments used in the developing world. You will also be able to offer them advice based on your experience from your home country. You will develop your skills by facing new problems and the pressures of working with a lack of resources.
You will learn about Cambodian culture and way of life through speaking to your new colleagues. Staff and patients will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
