Volunteer Teacher Trainers needed in Costa Rica

Volunteer as a Teacher Trainer in Costa Rica

Teaching in Costa Rica

This project helps to provide training for teachers in Liberia, Costa Rica. Volunteers work with a different school each day in order to reach as many teachers as possible.

The project is run in conjunction with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Education. The aim is to improve written and oral English language skills. This is done in a supportive and motivating environment.

This project is perfect for anyone considering voluntary work abroad or teachers on a career break. You can contribute to the development of education in Costa Rica.

Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Costa Rica?

What will I gain from this project?

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

What skills or qualifications do I need?

How do I apply to join this project?

How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Costa Rica?

You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer teacher trainer. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Planning lessons for teachers of a range of abilities.
  • Running lessons with local teachers , including:
    • Assessing their current ability level.
    • Improving written and spoken English.
    • Monitoring their progress and producing a record of achievement.
  • Running training workshops with staff and volunteers to demonstrate different methods of teaching English.

This project is designed to help improve the level of English in Costa Rican schools. However, it might also be possible for you to spend time working with other organisations, such as the Police.

You will be expected to teach for around 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. However, on Thursdays you will take part in a planning session at the Projects Abroad office.

There is also the option to teach English at a local school if you are not interested in doing teacher training.

This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

This voluntary work abroad will allow you to gain experience of teaching in the developing world. You will work alongside local teachers who will want to share ideas. You will also get to see how English is taught in Costa Rica. This project is also an excellent opportunity for improving your Spanish speaking skills.

Through working with the staff on this project, you will learn about Costa Rican culture and way of life. Staff will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

We have over 20 years’ experience of running volunteer projects. We provide you with the following support to make sure your time in Costa Rica is successful and enjoyable:

  • Safe accommodation with a Costa Rican family close to your project.
  • Friendly and dedicated local staff available to help 24 hours a day.
  • A member of staff to meet you at the airport when you arrive.
  • Comprehensive medical and travel insurance.
  • Social events with other volunteers such as a weekend trip to a local tourist destination.

What skills or qualifications do I need?

If you have attained Qualified Teacher Status (or the equivalent qualification in your home country) then you are perfectly suited to this project. It would be very useful if you can speak Spanish but this is not compulsory.

Please contact us if you think your knowledge may be useful on this project but do not have the required qualifications.
