How can volunteer physiotherapists help in Ethiopia?

You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer physiotherapist. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Providing treatment for patients requiring physiotherapy.
  • Producing a treatment plan to teach the patients or their parents how to carry out exercises.
  • Holding workshops with local physiotherapists to introduce new techniques.
  • Helping the staff plan changes to the centre’s working methods.
  • Holding training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working with other centres (optional).

You will work alongside local physiotherapists. You will be expected to work from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

This project is run in conjunction with the The Brothers of Good Work Counselling and Social Service Centre (BGW) they offer home-based care to people with disabilities and illnesses such as HIV/AIDS.

Your work will be based at the care center and also on home visits with staff from the BGW.

This project runs all year round. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

Voluntary Work in Physiotherapy in Ethiopia

Physical Therapy Placement

You will experience different methods of treating patients. Many of the problems facing these people will be unfamiliar to physiotherapists from the Western world. This will enable you to develop your skills and get used to working with minimal facilities and finances.

You will also have ample opportunity to spend time with local Ethiopians and take part in a unique cultural exchange.

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

We have over 19 years’ experience of running volunteer projects. We provide you with the following support to make sure your time in Ethiopia is successful and enjoyable:

  • Safe accommodation with an Ethiopian family close to your project.

  • A member of staff to meet you at the airport when you arrive.
  • Comprehensive medical and travel insurance.
  • Social events with other volunteers such as a weekly quiz night.

What skills or qualifications do I need?

If you have at least a Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy then you are ideally suited to this project.

Please contact us if you think your knowledge may be useful on this project but do not have the required qualifications.
