Volunteer Doctors needed in Nepal

Medical volunteer in Peru
This voluntary medical project provides vital care for patients in a hospital in Chitwan, Nepal. They are looking for volunteer doctors to provide advice and help treat patients.
Only 15% of Nepal’s population is provided for by its National Health System. We work with a privately funded hospital that also looks to help some of the poorest patients. There is also scope to organise outreach programmes in the local disadvantaged areas.
This project is perfect for anyone qualified considering voluntary work abroad or doctors on a career break.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer doctors help in Nepal?
As a volunteer doctor you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff. You can work on tasks such as:
- Working with existing staff to treat patients, including:
- Diagnosing medical conditions and planning/providing appropriate treatment.
- Organising preventative medical programmes for individual patients.
- Providing advice on medical care and immunisation etc.
- Providing lectures and workshops on your area of expertise at a local medical college.
- Arranging outreach projects in surrounding areas, where possible
Even as a qualified doctor you will still need to show some patience and take time to get to know your work colleges. However, once you do gain the trust of the staff it is likely that you'll have more opportunities to do hands-on, practical work.
You will be expected to work from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. You will also get the chance to take part in medical outreach programmes in local communities run by Projects Abroad.
The hospital staff are specifically on the lookout for volunteers with experience in Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics, Thoracic Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Micro-surgery. They would also appreciate anyone with experience of hospital management.
Please note senior hospital staff and Projects Abroad staff are able to speak English but most patients will not have conversational ability.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

Medical volunteer in Peru
This voluntary work abroad will allow you to gain experience of how medicine is practised in the developing world. You will get to work alongside trained professionals who will want to share ideas. You may also experience diseases, medical conditions and treatments that are uncommon in your home country.
You will learn about Nepalese culture and way of life through speaking to your new colleagues. Staff and patients will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?
