Volunteer Veterinarians needed in Peru

Taking blood from a young spider monkey
This volunteer veterinary project treats wounded and sick animals at a rescue centre in the Amazon rainforest.
The Taricaya Ecological Reserve looks after the physical and mental rehabilitation of wild animals. They then look to release them into the wild if possible. You can assist our qualified vet who is based at Taricaya.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:
How can volunteer veterinarians help in Peru?
What will I gain from this project?
What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

How can volunteer veterinarians help in Peru?
As a volunteer vet you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff. You can work on tasks such as:
- Working with existing staff to help with the treatment of animals at the ecological reserve, including:
- Physical rehabilitation of injured animals.
- Behavioural analysis to see if they are ready for release.
- Releasing animals back into the wild.
- Organising and running training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working at the reserve.
The project is based at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve, a private area of 476 hectares, neighbouring a national park. All volunteers and staff live at the reserve in a lodge.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?
You will get the change to work in the heart of the Amazon rainforest with an incredibly diverse range of animals. You will work alongside staff who are qualified in their field. They will be able to give you advice and help you adapt to life in the rainforest. You will also learn new techniques for treating and analysing the mental state of wild animals.
