Tanzania emerged from British Colonial rule in 1964 which has provided it with an exciting mix of modern and traditional culture. Even though much of the country suffers from a lack of infrastructure and development, its economy is showing signs of growth and the government has worked hard to improve healthcare and education. Now more than ever, there is great scope for skilled volunteers to continue this work. They will be doing so in a picturesque setting with some of the most famous safari parks in the world. Tanzania is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, which is more accessible than you might think and comes thoroughly recommended.

Volunteer skills required in Tanzania

Anyone looking to take part in skilled voluntary work in Tanzania will need to be confident, friendly and well-organised, as well as being able to perform well in a team and having an open-minded approach to working in a developing country. Each project has specific requirements regarding qualifications, but any related experience you may have will also be taken into consideration when you apply.

Projects Abroad PRO has several opportunities for skilled volunteering in Tanzania. Our projects are based in and around the town of Arusha, roughly 430 kilometres from the capital city, Dodoma. Volunteering in Tanzania: additional information

Volunteers are required to fill in two forms which are distributed by a member of staff in order to get your volunteering permit. Volunteers who are working in Arusha will need a Permit C, this allows you work in Arusha as a volunteer. In addition to completing the forms you will need to have 5 passport photographs, US$500, a copy of your passport, visa and CV.

Volunteers who are working in Dar es Salaam need to apply for a CTA permit, a requirement when volunteering in this city. You will be given the necessary forms by our local staff but in addition you will need to have 4 passport photographs, US$200, a copy of your passport, visa and CV.

A member of staff will go to the immigration office and get your Permit C or CTA permit processed for you.
