Volunteer Physiotherapists can help in Vietnam

Volunteer as a Physiotherapist in Vietnam

Physiotherapist

This voluntary physiotherapy project helps treat young people with physical and mental disabilities.

These problems are caused by dioxin poisoning. Dioxin is a component of the ‘Agent Orange’ chemical used by the USA during the Vietnam War.

The areas where we work are now safe but the poison has led to many birth defects. We need you to help treat these young patients.

Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer physiotherapists help in Vietnam?

As a volunteer physiotherapist you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff in a care centre. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Providing treatment for patients requiring physiotherapy.
  • Producing a treatment plan when caring for children to teach the parents how to carry out exercises.
  • Holding workshops for local physiotherapists. An example could be to introduce new techniques for specific treatments.
  • Working with existing staff to produce a long-term Development Plan for the care centre.
  • Organising and run training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working with other centres (optional).

Patients in these care centres have disabilities such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Downs Syndrome. You will be working for 6-8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, including a lunch break. We work with two care centres – one deals with children up to 7 years old. The other treats people from 6-24 years of age. Please let us know if you would prefer to work with a specific age group.

This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

Voluntary Work in Physiotherapy in Vietnam

Physiotherapist

You will get the chance to work with qualified Vietnamese physiotherapists and learn from the techniques they use. Vietnam has a good level of resources and facilities that may be surprising to volunteers.

You will also be able to teach them new methods that you use in your home country. This exchange of ideas will benefit your career and help improve the quality of care in Vietnam.

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

We have over 20 years’ experience of running volunteer projects. We provide you with the following support to make sure your time in Vietnam is successful and enjoyable:

  • Safe accommodation in a house with fellow volunteers close to your project.
  • A local staff member to cook your meals.
  • Friendly and dedicated local staff available to help 24 hours a day.
  • Airport transfers on arrival and departure.
  • Comprehensive medical and travel insurance.
  • Social events with other volunteers such as a weekly quiz night.

If you have completed at least a Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy then you are perfectly suited to this project. Please let us know if you have additional or specialist experience.
