The experience we have had in the Cusco region with Projects Abroad has been very meaningful and had a significant impact. It allows the volunteers to interact, share ideas, learn within a different cultural context and work with children in an atmosphere of play and creativity. Stimulating the children in many ways and teaching our colleagues about the multiple intelligence theory so the next generation con develop more and better capacities is important and we appreciate the continuous sharing of knowledge and materials.

The project developed by Projects Abroad in the Cusco region is especially important as we are working on a diversified regional curriculum. The in-service teacher training offered by Projects Abroad and the volunteers accompanying the Peruvian English teachers has had a positive influence on thousand of students.
Taking into account that the Cusco region is extremely touristy, the development of a pertinent and diversified curriculum for the teaching of a second (and in many cases third) language is a priority and we would like to thank and acknowledge the help we received from all Projects Abroad volunteers and staff alike.

Ven. Chhouk Bunthoeun

Ven. Chhouk Bunthoeun said “I dare to say that it is a rare opportunity to find partner like Projects Abroad. Our pupils and teachers at Beung kak school (school center based in the slum area) feel encouraged and motivated so much to learn English as they likes foreigner teachers. The children could improve their English skills a lot because they can practice directly with foreigners. They gained knowledge how to cope with intercultural habits the first time in their life. The presence of volunteers ensure children not to feel alone as most of them come from very poor families or are vulnerable being infected or affected by HIV/AIDs. Furthermore, Projects Abroad provided us material support such as tables, pencils, pen, notebooks and reading books, white boards, cupboards, carpets, fans, garbage bins, and sink).”

Um Vibol

Mr. Um Vibol said “the main reason that we selected to work with Projects Abroad because we both organisations concentrate on the same goal is to help the people in our country so that we can have a great chance to take part in our society. By the way, it is the great time that we can learn from each other or exchange experience between our team and volunteers. My colleagues can also have an opportunity to practice English with foreigners which is a rare chance to have here.”

Chem Rithy

Mr. Chem Rithy said “before having foreign volunteer come, children seems isolated, now they are not isolated and they could have a chance to study English with foreigners and their English have been improved a lot. In the near future, I hope the children can stand up and translate to their class without me and I will just do the coordination tasks at higher level. Projects Abroad staff are well cooperative that enable us to arrange the work for volunteer smoothly. Projects Abroad and its volunteers has helped our organization in reducing the some difficulties of our children and organization.”
