You can take part in culture & media projects as a skilled and qualified volunteer with Projects Abroad PRO.  These projects fall into two categories: media work such as journalism and web design, and cultural projects such as archaeology.  Our projects are all based in the developing world.  They are perfect for recent graduates, retired seniors or businesspeople on a career break.

We work with a variety of partners, including newspapers, radio stations, NGOs and archaeologists.  A good example of this is our volunteer media work for journalists in Ethiopia.  Alternatively, you can get involved as an archaeology volunteer in Romania.  You can see all of the available options on the left navigation menu.

On these projects you will get to work with local, qualified professionals in your industry.  You will be able to share ideas with them.  You will also work with less experienced individuals who need guidance and support.  We call this peer to peer contact and we think it is the best way to make sure that your work has a long-term benefit.

Skilled volunteers are able to bring a fresh perspective and provide new input to projects.  There is also often a lack of resources or personnel at the projects where we work.

In rural areas, radio is often the only means of mass communication which can quickly distribute information on health and education.  It is therefore essential that the media makes rapid progress. In addition, the press has not reached the required level of development in most of the countries that we work.  As for the Internet media, it is a great opportunity for NGOs to share their isolated actions with new networks. Having qualified volunteers who can help them articulate and structure their message is incredibly important.
