Be a Heritage Educator in Peru

Volunteer in Peru
This volunteer education project teaches Peruvian children about the history of their ancestors, the Incas.
Younger generations are losing sight of their historical culture and we are working to help change this. It is important that Peruvians understand the importance of preserving their material and immaterial heritage. We will provide support and structure based on partnership with the Ministry of Education.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer educators help in Peru?
You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer educator. You can work on tasks such as:
- Assisting / managing the development of a heritage education programme for local schools.
- Working with existing staff to produce a package of educational materials.
- Helping to present workshops in local schools involving the use of historical artifacts.
- Providing hands on training for local staff to help them deliver the education materials.
- Potentially consulting with government curriculum subject advisors regarding changes and developments in the Regional Curriculum.
- Organising and running training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working on our Inca projects (optional).
This project is run in conjunction with the the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INC) and COPESCO. Therefore, we are focusing on the delivery of INC and COPESCO approved messages to all local school children.
We work with secondary schools throughout the Sacred Valley with children aged between 11 and 18. Class sizes are normally between 30 and 35 pupils.
This project is not available from January to mid-March and late July to Early August. This is due to school vacations. Other than this we are completely flexible. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

Volunteer in Peru
You will gain first hand experience of working in an area of huge historical importance. You will get to teach pupils using real Incan artefacts and tools. You will also be working alongside experienced professionals who will pass on their knowledge of Peruvian culture.
You will spend time in local communities, learning about a new culture and way of life. Staff and pupils will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
