Volunteer teachers trainers needed in Nepal

Teaching in Nepal
This project works with teachers in schools in Kathmandu. The idea is to help them improve their ability to teach subjects such as English.
You can work with teachers in primary or secondary schools. You will also be able to teach pupils. You can help to modernise and improve teaching methods.
Here you will find answers to the following questions:
How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Nepal?
What will I gain from this project?
What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?
What skills or qualifications do I need?
How do I apply to join this project?
How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Nepal?
You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer teacher trainer. You can work on tasks such as:
- Teaching English in a Nepalese primary or secondary school. Local teachers will observe while you work on areas such as:
- Phonics.
- Reading Comprehension.
- Conversational English.
- Creative Writing.
- Holding individual lessons with teachers to improve their conversational English and pronunciation.
- Running workshops with teachers after school. This will focus on short, medium and long term planning.
- Taking ‘mock’ classes with teachers acting as pupils to demonstrate different teaching styles.
The schools we work with are also looking for advice on the best ways to set up and run examinations.
The average class size in Nepalese schools is around 30 pupils. We work with Grades 1 to 10, including children aged 5 to 15.
No teaching opportunities are available for the first two weeks of January, from mid August to mid November, and in the last week of December. This is due to various school holidays. However, it may be possible to organise special classes with teachers if your desired dates overlap with these holidays. Other than these times we are completely flexible regarding dates. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

Teaching in Nepal
You will get the chance to work with pupils and staff in a challenging environment. The staff in Nepal are eager to learn but you will need to develop a relationship and work alongside them. You will gain plenty of experience and there will be a degree of independence in the work you choose to perform.
Through educating the staff at these schools, you will learn about Nepal’s culture and way of life. Staff and pupils will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
