Volunteer teachers trainers needed in Romania

Volunteer as Teacher Trainer in Romania

Volunteer teaching at school in Romania

This project works with teachers in schools and day care centres. The idea is to help them improve their ability to teach subjects such as English.

You can work with primary or secondary schools in and around the city of Brasov. You can also get involved in public workshops to help train staff.

Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Romania?

What will I gain from this project?

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

What skills or qualifications do I need?

How do I apply to join this project?

How can volunteer teacher trainers help in Romania?

You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer teacher trainer. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Planning and running workshops in local schools to demonstrate new teaching methods.
  • Holding public workshops in Brasov to help people involved in non-formal education.
  • Organising and running training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working with local schools (optional)

Most of the schools we work with teach children aged 12-18. However, it is possible to work with primary schools if you want to. Class sizes are normally around 30 students.

You will normally be expected to work for around 4-5 hours per day. However, your exact work schedule will be outlined before you arrive. This will then be finalised with your project supervisor on your first day in Romania.

Most volunteers combine work with 2 or 3 schools and also hold extra workshops for Projects Abroad staff and volunteers. While English is the main subject that requires help, there is also the option for you to work with dance and drama teachers.

From 23rd December to 7th January and 24th April to 6th May, schools are on holiday. During these periods there is no teaching work available. Other than these times we are completely flexible regarding dates. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

You will get the chance to work with qualified teachers and share ideas about the best ways to teach pupils. You will also gain a lot of experience in training staff and presenting workshops. You will be given freedom and independence to design your own content for these workshops. This will help you improve your creativity and presentation skills.

Through educating the staff at these schools, you will learn about Romania’s culture and way of life. Staff and pupils will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
