Be a volunteer teacher in Mongolia

Volunteer as a Teacher in Mongolia

Teaching in Mongolia

This voluntary teaching projects works with schools and universities to help improve the level of spoken languages in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This is a perfect project for anyone considering voluntary work abroad or teachers on a career break.

Many foreign companies are now relocating to Mongolia. Young graduates need to be able to speak languages such as English and German in order to get a decent job. Volunteer teachers can help to raise the standard of language teaching.

How can volunteer teachers help in Mongolia?

You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer teacher. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Teaching German or English abroad in either a primary or secondary school or university, depending on your experience, including tasks such as:
    • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes
    • Marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development
    • Supervising and supporting the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers
  • Working with existing staff to assess and improve current standards of teaching methodology and subject content.
  • Observing classes in order to assess existing teaching staff, offer advice and set goals for their development
  • Organising and running training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working with other schools

We work with a variety of schools, teaching pupils aged 7 to 17. Here you will be expected to work roughly 8 hours per day, from Monday to Friday.

You can also work with one of two universities in Ulaanbaatar. The National University of Mongolia is the country’s oldest university. It focuses on all aspects of education. We also work with a university specialising in the Humanities. In both cases, you will work roughly an eight hour day, Monday to Friday.

This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

Voluntary Teaching Opportunities in Mongolia

Primary class in Mongolia

You will gain experience of teaching English or German as a foreign language in a challenging environment. You will learn a lot by working with Mongolian teachers and finding out how they teach their pupils. They will want to share ideas and learn from your experiences.

Through educating the children at your chosen school, you will learn about Mongolia’s culture and way of life. Staff and pupils will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?
