Volunteer teachers needed in Thailand

Volunteer as a Teacher in Thailand

Teaching in Thailand

This project works with both children and adults in Thailand to improve their spoken and written English.

You can work with primary or secondary schools to train teachers or take a class of students on your own. There are also adult education classes where you can teach conversational English.

Here you will find answers to the following questions:

How can volunteer teachers help in Thailand?

What will I gain from this project?

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

What skills or qualifications do I need?

How do I apply to join this project?

How can volunteer teachers help in Thailand?

You can use your knowledge and training to help local staff as a volunteer teacher. You can work on tasks such as:

  • Teaching English abroad in either a primary or secondary school, depending on your experience, including tasks such as:
    • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes.
    • Marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development.
    • Supervising and supporting the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers.
  • Working with a class of approximately 20 adults to improve their conversational English skills.
  • Working with staff to design changes to their curriculum or prepare questions for examinations.
  • Speaking as a guest at teacher training workshops.
  • Organising and running training clinics for Projects Abroad volunteers working with other schools (optional).

Schools and Kindergartens in Thailand educate children from 4 years old. Some Secondary schools have pupils aged up to 22. Class sizes can be anything up to 50 students.

Adult education classes are regular short-term projects run for between 16 and 20 hours. During a normal week you will be expected to work from 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday.

This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. During school holidays (March and May / September – November) we set up various extra classes for you to work with. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.

What will I gain from this project?

Voluntary Teaching Opportunities in Thailand

Teaching in Thailand

You will benefit from teaching a variety of pupils of different ages and abilities. Teaching English as a foreign language is a challenging experience and you will learn new ways to communicate. You will also be able to improve your leadership skills by taking responsibility for leading workshops and designing a curriculum.

Through educating the children or adults at your chosen school, you will learn about Thailand’s culture and way of life. Staff and pupils will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.

What will Projects Abroad PRO provide?

  • A member of staff to meet you at the airport when you arrive.
  • Comprehensive medical and travel insurance.
  • Social events with other volunteers such as a weekend trip to a local tourist destination.
