As a volunteer biologist you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff. You can work on tasks such as:
- Helping a team of researchers compiling a report into the condition of coral reef and marine life in Krabi Province.
- Working alongside divers charged with repopulating damaged reefs with previously nurtured corals.
- Working with Phuket Marine Biology Centre to help with the removal of Crown-of-Thorns starfish.
- Studying the impact of pollution on marine life.
- Identifying, classifying and preserving different types of marine life.
- Helping with on-going monitoring programmes to look for changes and trends in marine life.
- Helping to plan and run further field studies and experiments.
Projects Abroad PRO work in partnership with Kontiki Dive Centre which employs fully qualified instructors and dive masters. Kontiki are a 5* PADI dive centre and have been operating in Thailand since 1989.
This project is also run in conjunction with the Phuket Marine Biological Centre and the Krabi Fisheries Department. They are looking to study the effect of pollution on coral reefs and educate fisherman on sustainable fishing methods.
Every day on this project is slightly different, but work is normally finished by 6pm each day.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

They will be able to give you advice and share ideas about their work. You can also be part of published research which you can use for future references.
