Volunteer Dentists needed in India

Dentist in India
This voluntary dentistry project helps treat patients in a private dental clinic in Madurai, India.
Standards of medical care in India are generally high. However, the huge population places a great strain on the resources of doctors and dentists. Volunteers can help by treating patients and sharing the work load.
This project is perfect for anyone considering voluntary work abroad or dentists on a career break.

How can volunteer dentists help in India?
As a volunteer dentist you can use your knowledge and training to help local staff. You can work on tasks such as:
- Working with existing staff to treat patients, including:
- Educating patients on oral health care.
- Examining teeth and diagnosing patients' dental conditions.
- Assessing treatment options and agreeing treatment plans with patients.
- Maintaining patients’ dental records.
- Helping with medical outreach programmes within nearby towns and villages.
- Observing and assessing the work of local trainee dentists.
- Sharing ideas with local staff and looking at ways of improving care.
The project takes place in a private dental clinic in Madurai. You will be expected to work from 9am to 12pm and from 4pm to 7pm each day. The working week runs from Monday to Friday.
This project runs all year round so you can join at any time. You decide how much time you can spare and we will help you get the most out of it.
What will I gain from this project?

Dentist in India
This voluntary work abroad will allow you to gain experience of dental practice in the developing world. You will get the chance to work with staff from India who will have different perspectives on treatment. They will be happy to share ideas and see what you have to offer. You will also be challenged by working in a foreign environment. This will improve your ability to work creatively when under pressure.
Through working with patients and local staff, you will learn about Indian culture and way of life. They will want to hear about your life back home and your family and friends. We call this ‘cultural exchange’ and we think it helps our volunteers gain a new perspective on life.
